Bhubaneswar, May 25: The state government Monday decided to translate all bills and ordinances in Oriya before they were introduced in the state assembly.
Reviewing the achievements of the law department, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed the officials to translate all existing laws and acts into Oriya within a time-frame for the convenience of the general public. Patnaik also instructed the Law department to prepare a blueprint in this regard.
Law minister Arun Sahu who attended the meeting said a translation bureau will be set up under his department to expedite the work.
According to the chief minister’s office, Patnaik also directed creation of a Legal Aid Centre (LAC) in all panchayats across the state. The move will help people understand legal complicacies.
It was also decided that Wakf Board, Haj Committee, Survey Commission and Talaki Pension will work under the Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare Department.
The chief minister ordered a thorough analysis of old and obsolete laws and acts before they were amended or abolished. Sahu said Patnaik has suggested regular review of performance of law officers in various courts. He directed required steps to clear legal hurdles in filling up vacancies in various government departments. Patnaik asked the law officials to make a detailed list of cases infringing laws protecting rights of children and women and take steps against the culprits.
