Bhubaneswar: An ambulance driver came as a knight in shining armour for a patient whose life he saved by donating blood.
The driver and the boy had no acquaintance before and belonged to two different places. The patient is from Rangamatia village of Bharatpur panchayat on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and the 108 ambulance driver belongs to Sambalpur district.
Sachidananda (13), son of Sudarshan Pradhan of Rangamatia village of Bharatpur panchayat on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, had been undergoing treatment at Redhakhol sub-divisional hospital in Sambalpur district. His health condition started to deteriorate due to a shortage of blood.
The doctor attending Sachidananda asked Sudarshan to arrange a unit of ‘B+’ blood group as soon as possible. Sudarshan ran from pillar to post to get a unit of blood for his ailing son but failed.
As luck would have it, a depressed Sudarshan earnestly asked a 108 ambulance driver there to help him arrange a unit of ‘B+’ blood. Sujit Kumar Sahoo, the ambulance driver, had no acquaintance with Sudarshan. Yet, he without a second thought came forward to help Sudarshan. Sujit’s blood type is also ‘B+’, it was learnt.
As of now, Sachidananda, after transfusion, is recuperating at the hospital. And Sujit has since been lapping up appreciation from the family members, their relatives and villagers for saving Sachidananda’s life. Heaping praises on him, they say, Sujit is a true follower of the dictum “Service to mankind is service to god” and all should follow him.
