Cuttack, Dec 30: Ace sprinter Amiya Kumar Mallick emerged as the best athlete, while Cuttack emerged as the overall champions of the three-day long 62nd State Athletic Meet 2014, which concluded at the Barabati Stadium here Tuesday.
Amiya bagged a total of 987 points to take the top honours. Cuttack garnered 533 points to be at the top overall. Sundargarh finished overall runners-up with a total of 488 points.
As many as four records were broken on the day-three. Samsad Ara Begum (10:33.3 Seconds) of Cuttack in the U-18 girls 3000m race, Urja Bhuyan ( 27.46m) of Cuttack in the U-18 girls hammer, Monika Kujur (1.38m) of Sundargarh in the U-14 girls high jump and Gitanjali Nayak (8:26.6 seconds) of Cuttack in the U-20 girls 2000m steeple chase created histories by breaking records.
Dutee Chand proved her supremacy in the track and field again winning a gold medal in the U-20 girls 200m run. Dutee clocked 25.6 seconds to secure the first position. In the men’s 200m run, Amiya bagged the yellow metal with a timing of 21.9 seconds.
