Andhra Pradesh officials remove signboards in Odisha's Koraput

Koraput: Andhra Pradesh officials removed several signboards near the main reservoir of the Machkund Hydroelectric Project at Jalaput area in Koraput district and threw them away, said a source Sunday.

Andhra Pradesh officials also took down a welcome signboard that had been placed close to the dam. 

The source added that the signboards were put up by Koraput Collector and Machkund Hydroelectric Project authorities.

It can be mentioned here that the Jalaput Dam is jointly monitored by Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. However, locals allege that Andhra Pradesh has been attempting to control the dam for a while.

Machkund is a joint project of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, according to Bilaput Sarpanch Rajkishore Lendru. For the security of the dam Odisha government has put up signboards near the area and another welcome board as well, he added. 

Lendru informed that the boards were taken down and thrown away by Andhra officials. It is unacceptable that they are attempting to sabotage the relationship between the two states and encroach on our territory, he concluded.
