Anganwadi worker assaulted; hospitalised

Balasore: Two women and a man assaulted an Anganwadi worker over the formation of an SHG at Motiganj here Saturday. The injured Anganwadi worker was admitted to the district headquarters hospital.

The attack has triggered anger among Anganwadi workers who lodged a complaint with the Town police.

Sources said the Anganwadi centre at Annapurna Lane has no building of its own. Anganwadi worker Tabassum Ara Khatun has been running the centre in her own house for the last five years.

Rihana Bibi, Sehanaz Bibi and Sk Ibrahim reached Tabassum’s house Saturday and asked for the documents and register for the formation of an SHG. As the Anganwadi worker refused to give the documents, the three assaulted her, leaving her unconscious.

Locals came to her rescue and admitted her to the district headquarters hospital. Child development project officer Sabita Rout visited the hospital and enquired about the attack on Tabassum.

Several Anganwadi workers filed an FIR in this connection. They also took up the issue with Collector Ramesh Chandra Rout and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
