Hinjilicut: Resentment brewed among residents here following an inordinate delay in the opening of a 100-bedded Girls’ Hostel of Adarsha Vidyalaya at Sasanambhagaon under this block in Ganjam district.
While such hostels, an initiative of the school and mass education department, have been opened in other block headquarters, the building here is yet to be completed even after two years. Local residents expressed concern, blaming it on the indifferent attitude of the district administration. Students have to go through a lot of problems due to the delay in the opening of the hostel.
Students have to travel kilometers to reach schools that expose them to accidents. Moreover, the hostel is being constructed in an isolated place, away from the market place that further compounds the woes of students who find it hard to find a vehicle to drop them at the school in the absence of a motorable road.
Guardians complained that the children often get tired by the time they reach school. This indirectly affects their studies. A tender of Rs 1.95 crore was released in 2015 for the construction of the hostel building. This was supposed to be built by July 2016. Although two years have passed, there is no sign of the hostel being completed. Meanwhile, reports came up that lack of funds delayed the project.
When contacted, Hinjilicut rural sevelopment assistant executive engineer Pradip Kumar Padhi said the construction work was on and would be completed by August end. The hostel would be inaugurated by September first week and be ready to move in, Padhi added.
“As of now the students are facing problems as they have to come by auto-rickshaws and vans to the school. The hostel work will be ready in a month and everything will be sorted out,” school principal Arun Kumar Patel said.
