Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has cancelled the Occupancy Certificate issued to leading biscuit manufacturer, Anmol Industries, for failing to comply with the fire safety norms mandated by the Director-General of Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence.
The industrial unit built on a plot allotted by IDCO is at Anlapatna, Chandaka, on the city’s outskirts.
The BDA action came as per the Odisha Development Authority (ODA) Act, 1982.
Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence had issued two letters to the management of the industrial unit. However, they did not submit any report on fire safety.
After the management failed to comply with fire safety requirements, the DG wrote a letter to the Vice-Chairman of BDA to initiate the cancellation process.
As a standard practice, the BDA grants Occupancy Certificate to a building only after the entire infrastructure for utility services are physically provided. Other departments dealing with power, water supply, drainage and sewerage will give regular connections to a building only after the Occupancy Certificate is issued.
If a building fails to obtain Occupancy Certificate then obtaining other services is impossible. After the preliminary inspection report of the Fire Services Department, the Anmol Industries was asked to comply with fire safety norms. But they continued to ignore departmental reminders which prompted the fire department to request the BDA to take action.
