Another accused held in Sohela firing case

Bargarh/Sohela: Police late Saturday night arrested a man from Burla for his involvement in the July 24 Sohela firing incident in Bargarh district.

The accused was identified as Sanjay Shah. Two days back, Sohela police had arrested the main accused Aswini Suna from a rented house at Hirakud in Sambalpur district Thursday.

The third accused in the case is still at large. A manhunt is on and the absconder will be arrested soon, Padmapur SDPO Laxmi Narayan Panda said.

According to the case diary, Aswini, Sanjay and the other accused had an enmity with Mana Majhi.

With a motive to kill Mana, the three arrived on a motorbike and opened fire at him. Luckily, Man escaped while the bullets struck Satyanarayan Dash who happened to pass by. The assailants then fled the scene.

Dash was admitted to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he recovered after days of treatment.

“During probe, the police learnt that the three had tried to kill Mana over past enmity. But, the bullets hit Dash who happened to pass by the way,” Bargarh SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamu said, adding since then the police were tracking the movement of the trio. However, they evaded police arrest by changing their locations, Bhamu said.

Bhamu refuted any political links in the incident and said the absconder would be arrested soon.
