Baripada: A Class VIII student at a school under Betnoti police limits was found to be three months pregnant following an alleged sexual assault. The incident came to light after the student fell ill. Medical examinations at a health centre in Rasagovindpur confirmed the pregnancy.
Based on a complaint filed by her parents, police registered a case (585/26) and detained a suspect for questioning.
According to the complaint, the student was allegedly assaulted repeatedly by a worker at a poultry farm where she worked temporarily during a visit home in August. The accused reportedly threatened her against disclosing the incident.
The student later returned to her school hostel. Her condition deteriorated last Saturday, prompting school authorities to inform her guardians. The incident, following a similar case reported at another Ashram school in the district, has triggered concern and outrage.
