Another person dies of dengue in Bargarh

Bhubaneswar, Sept 30: The health department sources Tuesday said one woman afflicted with dengue died in the state. Earlier, the department had confirmed death of one dengue patient in Orissa.
The victim, identified as Kunti Pradhan (37), hailed from Jagadalpur in Bargarh district. She was admitted to Bargarh district headquarters hospital September 15 where doctors diagnosed her with dengue positive. Health department sources said she was then rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research where she died of the vector borne disease September 22. Although she was diagnosed with dengue early she died. The health department, however, has not updated the progressive report on dengue data in the state.
“The health department after rigorous investigations normally confirmed dengue deaths. We cannot upload vague or unconfirmed data. However, this case has been confirmed by our officials and will be officially declared soon,” said a senior official of the department.
State health department officials have confirmed that only one person from Balasore had died of dengue this year.
The situation however is better this year compared to the last year’s performance. The health officials this time have detected 846 dengue positive cases and one death against 2,428 positives and seven deaths last year. According to official data, Balasore topped the chart with 124 positive cases with one death followed by 115 positive cases in Jagatsinghpur and 93 in Cuttack this year.
“The state is comparatively doing well in tackling the disease this time. We have ensured all possible measures taking into consideration the last year’s endemic situation,” said public health director Kailash Dash.
