Ansuman, Saina among leaders

Cuttack, April 18: Top seed Ansuman Samal emerged leader in the open category with five others while Saina Salonika and Ankita Sahoo were at the top of the girls’ segment after the completion of the fourth round in the Orissa State U-13 Chess Championship at the ABIT hall here Saturday.
In the Open category, six players are jointly leading the pack with four points each. Ansuman prevailed over Rudra Narayan, while second seed Pranab Kumar Patra got the better of Dikshant Dash. Third seed Nilsu Patnaik outwitted Aryan Arnav Samantaray and fourth seed Sambit Panda downed Joy Anmol Rath.
In the girls’ segment, fourth seed Ankita Sahoo and Saina are leading the top spot with four points each. WCM Saina checkmated WCM Shreya Smruti Mohanty while Ankita defeated Shreejita Khuntia. Second seed Anwesha Mishra defeated Anoushkaa Mohanty. However third seed Anisha Mishra played a drab draw with Gitashree Biswal.
Aparajita joint fourth
Aparajita Gochhikar played a stalemate with Amarjargal Enkhbayar of Mongolia to be static at fourth place along with five others with three points each after the completion of the fifth round of the World Amateur Chess Championships at Halkidiki Islands in Greece, Saturday. G Sandhya of India maintained her top place with 4.5 points.
Chess tourney
Cuttack District Chess Association (CDCA) will organise the Cuttack District Chess Championships here May 1-3. The competition will be played under two categories, which carries a prize purse of Rs 22,000.
