Aparajita starts campaign with victory

Cuttack, April 20: Aparajita Gochhikar defeated Koutsog-iannopoulou Theodora (Greece) in the opening round of the U-2000 ratings at the World Amateur Chess Championships at the Halkidiki Islands in Greece, Tuesday. The tournament started April 18 and will end April 28.
Aparajita is the only player from Orissa representing the country among the 12 Indian contestants. The matches will be played among 160 participants with players from the US, Russia, Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Ukraine, Finland and a few other countries taking part in the tourney. The Orissa girl will face Gibbs Dominic of England in the second round.
Sabat, Biswal shine
Satyajit Sabat (169) and Kartik Biswal (119) scored magnificent centuries to put BBSR-A in command against Bolangir on the opening day of a three-day quarterfinal game of the U-19 Inter-District cricket tournament at the Nimpur Ground here Wednesday.
Opting to bat first, BBSR-A scored a mammoth 402/7 at stumps on the first day. Sailesh Patnaik (2/44) was the most successful bowler for Bolangir.
