Appointment of Class IV employees at SCBMCH under vigilance scanner

Cuttack:  Employees who got jobs at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack through a private organization are in fear of losing their posts as their appointment is alleged to be illegal.

The vigilance department has started an investigation into the matter.

There are 1102 Class IV posts at SCB Medical College and Hospital. With many posts remaining vacant, six months ago, 294 were appointed to fill up these positions with the help of a private organisation.

At that time, a petition regarding massive irregularities in giving appointment to these staff was filed with the Lokayukta.

Acting on the direction of the Lokayukta, the vigilance department has already initiated an investigation into the allegations.

Earlier, the vigilance department had seized some relevant documents. Administrative officer, SCBMCH, Kalpataru Behera, one ex-account officer and a senior clerk were also grilled by the vigilance department Wednesday.

The vigilance department is reported to have come to know that some SCBMCH employees are working hand in hand with private organisations that are engaged for various jobs in SCBMCH.  Some employees are even running their own business in partnership with these organisations.

The arrest of SCBMCH superintendent’s steno Pramod Basantara for accumulation of disproportionate assets has laid bare the SCBMCH staff working hand in glove with the private organisations.

When contacted, SCBMCH administrative officer Adhikari Behera said: “We have submitted all the documents we were asked to the vigilance department. I have no information about any irregularities in Class IV employees’ appointment.”
