Army man ostracised by villagers

Berhampur: An army man, Dinabandhu Reddy of Kartikadi village under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district claimed there was threat to his life after being ostracised by villagers who also seized his properties and prevented himfrom entering the village Sunday.

According to sources, Dinabandhu, son of Naran Reddy, is serving in the Indian Army for 16 years. He married a girl of Chhatrapur in 2011 and took his family to Lucknow where he was posted.
However, the couple was childless. Doctors claimed that Dinabandhu’s wife could not attain motherhood due to a disorder.
Tension prevailed between the couple over the issue. According to Dinabandhu, his wife inflicted mental torture on him. Fed up with her behavior, he brought her back home and went back to Lucknow.

During Dinabandhu’s absence, his wife lodged a complaint with the village committee demanding separation from him. Accordingly, the village committee arranged a meeting summoned Dinabandhu November 2.
However, he failed to get holidays and pleaded with the village committee to extend the date of the meeting, but in vain. The committee imposed a penalty of `15,000 on him.
After reaching home, November 26, Dinabandhu tried to re-organise a meeting, but to no avail. Again, he left for Lucknow as none in the village came in his support.

The man lodged a complaint with Rambha police in this connection. However, the village committee reportedly pressurised the police to settle the matter amicably. The village committee seized Dinabandhu’s house and his landed properties and ostracised his family when he sought legal recourse.
His family was prohibited from using the village road, electricity, water and other basic

facilities. Fearing for their lives, the family members left the village and resided in a rented house in Berhampur. Now, the village committee is demanding `1 lakh from Dinabandhu, his family members said. Meanwhile, Dinabandhu pleaded with the local administration and the Ganjam Army Board to look into the matter. PNN
