Bhubaneswar: The people in the city were allowed to enter and watch a variety of colourful flowers at Raj Bhavan here Monday. The Governor’s house was open to the citizens to view and enjoy the aromatic ambience of flowers. People in the city may have the op- portunity of basking in the coveted garden up to January 20. The Governor’s house having a peacock and cockatiel bird centre has been open to the public. This apart a deer park and fish ponds are drawing visitors in hordes.
The peacock centre has three birds including two peahens brought from Nandankanan zoological park. The number of pea- cocks will go up in the next few months. People in large numbers visited the garden along with their family members and children. Most of them were seen clicking self- ies surrounded by the beautiful flowers amidst water fountains. The garden has showcased over 50 variety of flowers including Salvia, Mandevilla, Petunia, Safari Mix, Celosia, Sevanthi, Lilium, Geranium, Inca, Marigold and
Roses, said Keshab Chandra Behera, a gardener engaged in Raj Bhawan. On the first day of the flower show, a part of the garden was re- stricted to the public due to security reasons, but may be open in the coming days, especially on week- ends, said a security official of the Governor’s house. ”We expect huge footfall Saturday and Sunday as people will come in large numbers along with their family members. The garden will be open to public from 2pm to 4.30pm daily,” he said.
People of all age groups, especially students, visited the garden Monday. “I visited the garden for the first time with my family,’’ says Chittaranjan Sahoo. Watching such a rich variety of flowers at one place is dreamlike. It’s like a Paradise on earth. I loved the surrounding free from noise and litter,” he added. Raj Bhavan’s gardens are named after famous personali- ties like emperors Ashoka and Akbar, Gautam Buddha, Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi among others which give the place a distinct identity,” claimed Bijay Kumar Patra, a res ident of the city.
