Artificial intelligence to assist cops in investigation

Cuttack: The state police would soon use artificial intelligence (AI) to investigate cases of crimes more efficiently.

“We would soon provide AI technology to all investigating officers (IOs). The new technology would help in data analysis and mobile computing. The AI technology would be installed in the smartphones of IOs,” said Director General of Police (DGP) Rajendra Prasad Sharma.

According to the DGP, the AI technology would enable IOs to get required information for investigating a case properly. “The AI technology would sound an alarm when there is any mistake in the investigation by the IOs. The officials would have the chance to correct the errors,” added the DGP.

Odisha police sources said the AI technology would help IOs to scan database of accused persons, criminals and investigation reports. “The new technology can find out the detail information on an accused by scanning his photo and face. The IOs can find finger prints, voice samples and other crucial information of the accused,” Sharma said.

It may be mentioned here that the DGP in a progressive step has directed all district superintendents of police (SPs) and deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) to ensure paperless work at all police stations in the state by June 2019.
