Bhubaneswar, March 4: Ashutosh Padhy played brilliantly to win both his matches Friday in the Asian Junior Snooker Championships in Colombo. By virtue of the wins, Ashutosh finished second in the group and qualified for the round of 24.
In his first match of the day the Orissa cueist defeated Mohammed Rikaz of Sri Lanka 4-0 (64-44, 61-48, 68-15, 81-23). In his second tie he routed Siyavosh Mozayani of Iran 4-0.
Suraj triumphs
Karnataka boy Suraj R Prabodh clinched the men’s singles title of the AITA-OTA tennis tournament in Behrampur, Friday. In the final he defeated his doubles partner Abhinansu Borthakur of West Bengal 6-4, 6-3.
10 from Orissa
Ten players from Orissa have been selected by Softball Federation of India, Friday for the Indian Softball League to be played at Nagpur, starting in the first week of May. They are: Chinmay Patnaik, Kalandi Charan Panda, Niranjan Sahu, Lingaraj Pangi, Sandip Roy, Debashis Tripathy, Somnath Panda, Duryodhan Bidika, Pidika Kiran and Ranjan Das.

Khurdha District Chess Association (KDCA) will organise the VIth Bhubaneswar All India FIDE Rating Chess championship at Bhubaneswar, March 21-23. “Players with ratings of 1600 and below are eligible to participate in the tournament, which carries a prize purse of `2,00,000,” KDCA stated in a press release Friday.
