Baripada: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police at Chitrada outpost in Mayurbhanj district has been placed under suspension over his alleged connivance with the liquor mafia and dereliction of duty.

According to reports, Bhimasen Mallik, the officer-in-charge of Chitrada police outpost under Morada police station, came under the scanner after an audio recording purportedly suggesting his association with the liquor mafia went viral.

The audio subsequently drew the attention of senior police officials, prompting an inquiry.

Following the investigation, Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police Varun Guntupalli ordered Mallik’s suspension as a disciplinary measure, citing negligence in duty.

During the suspension period, Mallik will remain under the control of the Police Reserve Inspector (RI) until further orders, sources said.

The action comes amid allegations of the police officer’s association with persons involved in the illicit liquor trade.
