Asirbad era ends in OOA

Cuttack: The long 28 years reign of Asirbad Behera officially ended with the Orissa Olympic Association (OOA) elections which were conducted Tuesday at the Barabati Stadium here. He had been elected to the secretary’s post way back in 1998.
Since March this year, Asirbad had not been functioning as the secretary due to a Supreme Court order in the land encroachment case that the OOA is facing after a probe by the CID. In Asirbad’s absence it was Orissa Table Tennis Association secretary Ravindra Parida who had been conducting the day to day affairs as acting secretary. But Parida did not contest the elections paving the way for MA Alam to occupy the chair vacated by Asirbad.
Meanwhile Orissa Gymnastic Association’s Samir Dey was re-elected as the president of the OOA. Kamalakanta Pandey (DAA, Phulbani), Prashant Kumar Acharya (DAA, Balasore), Pratap Satpathy (Hockey Orissa), Jagamohan Patnaik (DAA, Kalahandi), Pankaj Lochan Mohanty (DAA, Cuttack) and Kishore Kumar Biswal (DAA, Mayurbhanj) were elected vice-presidents of the body. The joint-secretaries elected to the association were Manoranjan Mohanty and Avijit Paul while Adhip Das of Orissa Athletic Association became the treasurer.
Council members: Sarat Kumar Sahoo, Binod Chandra Das, Narayan Sahu, Anup Kumar Patra, Anil Kumar Bohidar, Dulal Chandra Pradhan, Rushinath Sahu, Durga Madhab Naik, Binod Dash, Dhiren Pallai and Birendra Kumar Behera.
