Keonjhar: A Rubik’s Cube portrait of ‘Bahubali’ star Prabhas has gone viral and is all over social media platforms. Many in Odisha, however, are yet to know that Sumit Dwivedi — the man behind the masterpiece — is an engineering student from Deogarh.

Son of a contractor Sudam Charan Dwivedi and homemaker Sabitri, Sumit is currently pursuing his engineering in Keonjhar Engineering College.

To showcase his creative side and love for southern superstar Prabhas, he recently made a 4-feet tall painting using 486 Rubik’s Cubes that took him three days to complete and has been loved by one and all.

Rubik’s Cube art is a unique form of art in which one has to collect colorful Rubik’s Cubes and connect them to make a design.

When asked about his passion for this form of art, Sumit says, he was in Plus II when he started playing Rubik’s Cube. Slowly, his interest and curiosity led him to Rubik’s Cube art and he tried his hand in it.

Slowly, the artist in him began to love the craft and he started making different kinds of portraits. There has been no looking back for him since then. Though Rubik’s Cube art is expensive and time consuming, Sumit manages to keep his passion alive.

Odia film star Barsha Priyadarshini’s painting was Sumit’s first. For this he had to buy around 146 cubes from his pocket money. Portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and cricketer MS Dhoni are also part of his gallery.

However, it is Prabhas’ portrait that has brought along all the fame and popularity for which he will be grateful forever. He wants to showcase his talent at international level and make his hometown and the state proud.

When our correspondent reached out to Sumit about his future plans, he said, “I want to be a mining engineer for livelihood and a Rubik’s Cube artist to keep my passion alive. I request the government to provide me an opportunity to showcase my talent and I will certainly bring pride for my state.”

Prabhas’ portrait will be my most valued possession and I will keep it with me throughout my life, he adds.

Sumit has planned to build 20 Rubik’s Cube arts of prominent personalities in near future. He draws inspiration from Giovanni Contardi — an internationally acclaimed Rubik’s Cube artist from Italy who has the world record for solving Rubik’s Cubes at lightning speeds.
