Bantala: Changing their plans, the special forest and wildlife teams tried to drive Royal Bengal Tigress Sundari to the habitat of the tiger brought here from Kanha National Park after their attempts to catch the tigress failed.
Four teams tried thrice to catch the tigress, but the animal managed to escape. As a result, they changed their plan and are now trying to drive the tigress near the male RBT. This was revealed here by eight senior animal experts and veterinarians engaged in the operation.
Tiger expert Dr K. Ramesh of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) believes that the tigress will calm down if it finds an opportunity to mate with tiger Kanha.
The team has started driving the tigress brought from the Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh to a spot near the tiger. The efforts have started yielding results as Sundari is reported to be just 3-km away from the Kanha RBT.
While Sundari was spotted near the Chuanri camp just 2-km away from the Purunakote forest range, the Kanha RBT was seen near Kantarisinga under Pampasar forest range.
However, their efforts are unlikely to yield immediate results as a Satkosia tigress was found moving with Kanha. The team is hopeful that Sundari will come near the Kanha RBT by Thursday morning.
They said once Sundari establishes a relationship with the tiger then the plan to raise the tiger population in Satkosia will be successful. Assistant conservator of forests and Satkosia field director Sudarshan Panda said they are eagerly waiting for Sundari to come near the Kanha RBT.
