Cuttack, Feb 24: In an era, when honesty is a rarity, Purnachandra Jali, an auto-rickshaw driver, did what few others could hardly do.
Recently, after dropping a passenger at his residence from the railway station, Jali found that the passenger had forgotten his bag containing valuables worth more than Rs two lakh. Jali went to the Government Railway Police (GRP) station here and returned the valuables, which was collected by the rightful owner later.
According to Jyoti Ranjan Mohapatra, IIC, GRP police station, Cuttack, “The bag contained bangles, a necklace, earrings and Rs 7,000 which the passenger had left in Jali’s auto-rickshaw. But Jali came back to us and returned the bag. We got the contact details of the passenger from there and called him to take his bag. It was a very honest gesture by Jali who drives auto near the Cuttack railway station”. Meanwhile, Jali, a resident of Ganjam district, said he wants to earn money by working hard and not through unfair means.
