Autonomous status to Shailabala soon

Cuttack, Dec 8: The state government will soon accord autonomous status to Shailabala Women’s College, said higher education minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy at the inaugural ceremony of the students’ union and Plus II cultural association of the college here Tuesday.
The minister, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, praised Shailabala Women’s College for its contribution towards women’s education.
He also described the college, which was established in 1913, as the cradle of women’s higher education in the state. At present, the college is affiliated to Utkal University in Bhubaneswar.
“Shailabala Women’s College currently gets funds from Rashtriya Uchatara Sikhya Abhiyan (RUSA) for upgrade of its infrastructure. The state government will provide adequate financial assistance to the college for its overall development,” Pangrahy said. Panchayati Raj minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, who inaugurated the ceremony, highlighted the steps taken by the state government for development of the education sector in the state.
Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debashish Samantray, Chandabali MLA Byomakesh Ray and Cuttack zilla parishad chairperson Prashant Kumar Behera were also present on the occasion. Principal Sanjukta Mahapatra presided over the inaugural ceremony.
