Ayushman, Sandeepa bag titles

Winners and runners-up of the various categories of Odisha State U-7 Chess Championships pose with their trophies and certificates along with guests in Bhubaneswar, Friday  

Bhubaneswar: Ayushman Mohanty of Puri and Sandeepa Priyadarshini Sahoo of Cuttack emerged champions in the Open and Girls’ categories of the Odisha State U-7 Chess Championships, which concluded here Friday.

In the Open category, Ayushman took the top honours with seven points by winning all his seven matches. Swastik Suvam Patnaik of Cuttack finished runner-up with six points while Aditya Vikram Mishra of Khurda secured the third position with 5.5 points. Biswa Preet Roy of Cuttack stood fourth with five points.

In the final round of the Open event Ayushman outwitted Biswa, Swastik scripted a convincing victory over Tanmay Talin Behera of Khurda and Aditya checkmated Pritam Ghosh of Cuttack.

In the girls’ category Sandeepa clinched the title with 6.5 points. Pratyasha Jena of Cuttack also finished with the same number of points, but because of poor tie-breaker score, she was declared second. Ayushi Mohanty of Puri and Ayushi Das of Cuttack were third and fourth with five points each.

In the final round, Sandeepa outclassed Basundhara Panda of Bolangir, Pratyasha defeated Ishani Das of Khurda, Ayushi Das prevailed over Sinchana Das of Cuttack and Ayushi Mohanty got the better of Tamanna Tripathy of Khurda.
