B Tech student among 8 held for theft

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police Friday arrested eight persons including an Engineering student on charges of looting motorcycles and mobile phones in three cases registered with Sahid Nagar police here.

Four of the arrested who are currently residing at Patharbandha Basti here are: Santosh Kumar Nayak, 21, alias Chandia of Simil Sahi in Nayagarh, Dipu Singh, 26, of Sukinda in Jajpur, Liku Panda of Sunapal under Badamba police limits in Cuttack, Bablu Sahu of Orali in Cuttack.

The other four are: Tushar Ranjan Pradhan, 23, of Sikharpur in Nayagarh, Rabindra Tiria, 23, of Kadali Duara in Mayurbhanj, Laxmidhar Behera alias Lakhia of Talasahi in Chandanpur of Puri and their associate Narendra Bahadur, 19. All of them have been staying at Palasuni Canal Road Munda Basti area under Mancheswar police limits.

Police also seized around 19 mobile phones, four motorcycles and a gold chain from their possession.

The police also registered cases (20/19, 513/18 and 405/18) based on the complaint of Debidutta Mishra whose bike and gold chain were snatched away by the miscreants while he was on his way for a shopping. Similarly, another victim Rosalin’s mobile was snatched away the bike-borne miscreants while she was speaking over phone in Acharya Vihar area.

The desperados also decamped with the motorcycle of one Kailash Dash in Sahid Nagar.

Tushar, who is pursuing his B Tech at a private Engineering college at Balianta, was also found to be involved in the crimes. Tushar is from poor family as his father works as a labourer in a company.

Sahid Nagar police station IIC Padmanav Pradhan said, “Crave for new gadgets and girlfriends have pulled him into the web of crime.”
