According to sources, the incident occurred when the mother and the baby were returning home from a wedding reception at a nearby village in the district. When the mother and daughter were passing by a forest area, the pachyderm suddenly appeared before them. After seeing the duo, the jumbo became ferocious and attacked the scared mother and child.

On the very first outset, the elephant grabbed the child by its trunk and smashed her on the ground. The baby girl died on the spot. Later, the jumbo turned towards the woman and severely injured her.

As the child and her mother did not return home, their family members searched for them and found the child dead.

The family members immediately rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. The health condition of the woman is stable now but not out of danger, a doctor of the hospital said.
