Cuttack: Relatives of a woman have alleged that unidentified persons have swapped her baby boy with a baby girl at the labor room of Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of SCB Medical College and Hospital here January 26.
Sunday, they lodged a complaint with Mangalabagh police in this regard.
According to the complaint, Madhusmita, wife of Prahallad Mahapatra of Balichadrapur in Jajpur district, was admitted to the premier health institute with labour pain a few days ago.
Doctors at the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department had conducted a caesarian section on Madhusmita around 3 pm January 26. However, they told her relatives that she had delivered a baby girl around 6 pm.
“We are sure that some health staff had swapped the baby boy with a baby girl. That is why they took almost three hours to reveal the gender of the baby to us,” alleged Prahallad in his complaint.
Mangalabagh police in-charge Arun Swain said they have made a station diary after receiving a complaint regarding the alleged baby swapping incident. “We have contacted the hospital superintendent over the issue. Steps are being taken to examine the CCTV footages at the hospital,” he added.
Meanwhile, SCBMCH superintendent Shyama Kanungo said she would look into the issue Monday.
