Badambadi bus stand to get new address soon

Cuttack: The state government has expedited the process for relocating the Badambadi main bus terminus to Gopalpur.
The Commerce and Transport department has made all necessary arrangements for the proposed bus stand at Gopalpur.
It is learnt that the bus stand will come up on a 42.64-acre land. The department has sanctioned Rs 3 crore to the Orissa Police Housing Board for construction of a boundary wall for the bus stand.
“The state government will soon engage an agency for preparing a design for the project. A six-lane road will be laid to connect the new bus stand with the National Highway-16,” said a source in the department.
A high-level team led by the department principal secretary G Srinivasan and special secretary Manoj Mishra recently visited the site for the mega project.
“The team studied details regarding the construction of entry and exit points, a waiting room, a night shelter for passengers and a drinking water project at the proposed bus stand,” said the
official.
The state government had decided to shift the main bus stand of the city from Badambadi in the wake of severe traffic congestion in the locality. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed the Commerce and Transport department to build a new bus stand at Gopalpur, close to Kathajodi river.
The Revenue department had handed over the required land to the Commerce and Transport department in 2015. According to sources, the district administration will acquire land from the Railway authorities and Irrigation department to construct an approach road to the bus stand from the NH.
