Baleshwar: A 58-year old teacher was arrested and remanded in judicial custody for allegedly sexually abusing a Class V girl at a primary school in Chandipur police limits in Baleshwar district.
The accused teacher, Himanshu Sekhar Chowdhury, a resident of Badakhua village under Baleshwar Town police station limits, was produced before a court Friday after police registered a case (203/26) under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
His bail plea was rejected and he was sent to jail. According to the complaint, Chowdhury, a teacher at Jayanagar Primary School, allegedly called the girl near him during the recess and touched her inappropriately.
The incident came to light after the girl reportedly told her family about the alleged abuse. The girl’s kin lodged a written complaint with Chandipur police October 8. Police recorded statements from the girl and villagers as part of the investigation.
