Kuchinda: Bamra railway station in Sambalpur district turned into a battlefield as agitators clashed with police over the cancellation of the stoppage of some trains at the railway station, Thursday. As a result, nine policemen and six agitators were injured in the incident. The agitators had staged a rail roko for 11 hours Wednesday demanding the stoppage of express trains at the railway station. The train services resumed after a discussion between the Chakradharpur railway authorities and Bamra Rail Action Committee.
However, the cancellation of the stoppage of all the trains that were earlier making a halt at the Bamra railway station, Thursday sparked tension among the railway users. Hundreds of people waiting to board the Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Intercity were disappointed after the train did not stop at the station, Thursday. They ransacked and locked the ticket counter and the panel room, and drove the employees out.
A scuffle broke out after police tried to clear the agitators from the station premises. The scuffle led to a clash between the agitators and police. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) resorted to a mild-lathi-charge to disperse the mob which went berserk and pelted stones. Some police vehicles have allegedly been damaged in the stone pelting by the mob.
