Cuttack: The authorities of the Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) have proposed a ban on all types of demonstrations on the institution’s premises.
The SCBMCH authorities also moved a proposal permitting activists of political parties and social organizations to raise their grievances with the medical college principal and the hospital superintendent.
Sources said SCBMCH superintendent Shyama Kanungo Tuesday wrote to the Home department seeking its permission to ban all protests, dharnas and demonstrations on the hospital’s premises. It is learnt that the hospital authorities are planning to place restrictions on all types of protests by medical students.
The activists of some political parties and social organizations had organised dharnas on the hospital’s premises seeking permission to meet a minor girl who had been allegedly raped by four persons in Koraput district. The girl had been admitted to the intensive care unit of the medicine ward recently.
The members of some social outfits and political parties had created a ruckus at the medicine ward when the hospital authorities did not allow them to meet the minor girl.
“Political parties and social activists often organise demonstrations on the hospital’s premises over various issues. These agitations are creating problems for patients and doctors. People should cooperate with the hospital authorities to maintain normalcy at the SCBMCH,” said a senior doctor.
Haemophilia unit soon
Cuttack: The Haematology department of SCB Medical College and Hospital will soon have a Haemophilia unit. This was revealed during the visit of a two-member World Haemophilia Federation (WHF) team to the daycare centre of the Haematology department Monday.
The new facility will be set up with an assistance of `66 lakh from the American organisation. The needed equipment and beds will be purchased using the fund, said sources at SCBMCH. The employees of the Haemophilia unit will receive payments from WHF.
The WHF team took stock of the day care centre and asked about the patients being treated there and their medical status.
Haematology department head RK Jena presented details of the department before the WHF team and informed them about the need for a Haemophilia wing at the premier healthcare institution.
