Rayagada: In a heart wrenching incident, an 87-year-old woman was seen begging to be allowed into the house to her son, a retired bank officer who allegedly threw her out of the house over some family dispute and kept her outside for two hours.
The incident came to the fore after the video of the woman begging her son and sobbing outside the house went viral on social media after being uploaded by a vigilant witness.
In the video, the elderly woman can be seen begging him to let him in and crying for two hours in the house verandah.
After the video went viral, police officials swung into action and launched a probe. This incident has been reported from Rayagada town here in this district. Later, with the intervention of the police, the woman’s younger son took her to his house, it was learnt.
In her ordeal, the old woman named Krishnaveni sobbed how by elder son, a retired bank officer, S Tabitaya ill treated her and threw her out of the house without food.
“My elder son shut the door on me. Despite my pleading, he did not allow me inside the house. I was made to wait for two hours at the gate and slept there but he did not come,” said Krishnaveni with her eyes welling up in tears.
“We are astonished to see an educated man being so ruthless to his own mother,” locals said.
According to sources, Krishnaveni has two sons, S Tabitaya and younger S Ravana. Following distribution of her ancestral property after the death of her husband, she used to stay six months each with her two sons.
After spending six months at S Ravana’s house, she had come to her elder son’s residence. However, the bank officer ill treated her and threw her out of the house.
It is alleged that the elder son is not happy with the distribution of the property. And this could be the reason for him being reluctant to take care of his aged mother.
On hearing the plight of the woman, locals were of the opinion that humanity has become a rarity in this money-oriented society.
