Barabati land grab: ED grills Asirbad’s son-in-law for 3 hrs  

The ED had registered a case against Asirbad Behera, his son, Subrat Behera and son-in-law Sanjit Samal December 4, 2017

Bhubaneswar: Sanjit Samal, the son-in-law of Asirbad Behera, former secretary of the Odisha Olympics Association (OOA), appeared before the Enforcement Directorate here Thursday.

The ED had summoned him to depose before the agency within a week June 19 in connection with the Barabati land grab case.

Sanjit reached the ED office here at around 10.30am and was grilled for three hours. Later, he told the media that he had revealed details to the officials about the encroachment of government land for Barabati Palace.

The ED had registered a case against Asirbad Behera, his son, Subrat Behera and his son-in-law Sanjit Samal December 4, 2017. The trio has been facing charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy.

INCON Associates, a firm jointly owned by Subrat and Sanjit, was given government land illegally by the Odisha Olympic Association to construct a Kalyan Mandap on behalf of OOA. Interestingly, Asirbad was the secretary of the OOA when the firm got the contract.

The CBI had also filed a case against Asirbad, INCON Associates and office bearers of OOA holding office in 2017 after a Supreme Court direction. The SC had asked the agency to probe the financial irregularities in OOA and the alleged grab of two acres of government land by OOA.
