Baragada woman, daughter missing in Nepal flash floods

Baragada: A woman and her 18-month-old daughter from Baragada district are missing following the devastating floods in Nepal, while the woman’s husband has been reported safe, officials said Friday.

The missing persons have been identified as Gunnam Sai Bindu Kumari, wife of Gunnam Jayakrishna, and their daughter, Hariksha, residents of Sarla village under Jampali panchayat in Baragada block.

Jayakrishna, who works as an engineer with a hydropower company in Nepal, was away from home with the company’s chief engineer on the day of the incident. They had gone to a hill area for official work when the floods struck. His wife and daughter were at home at the time. According to family members, floodwaters swept away the woman and her daughter, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Jayakrishna managed to remain safe and later informed his family in Sarla over the phone. Baragada Collector Aditya Goyal said he had received information about the incident and informed the state government so that necessary steps could be taken to locate the missing woman and child and provide assistance to the family. Jayakrishna’s family members, who were left distressed by the incident, met officials at the district labour office and other concerned departments Friday. They sought immediate intervention and assistance in tracing the missing woman and child. Authorities are expected to coordinate with the relevant agencies to gather further information and facilitate search and rescue efforts.
