Barkote tehsildar’s SUV hits father, son in Deogarh district

Deogarh: A local businessman and his toddler son, who were riding a motorcycle, sustained grievous injuries after being hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on NH-49 near Baniakilinda village under Deogarh police limits in this district Wednesday afternoon.

According to an eyewitness, the vehicle belongs to Barkote tehsildar Ruby Behera. She was on her way to Deogarh collectorate for some official work when driver of the SUV lost control leading to the mishap.

The injured father was identified as 38-year-old Rajesh Goyal and his son as 11-year-old Risabh Goyal. The SUV skidded off the road and hit the motorcycle near Deogarh regional transport office (RTO).

Some locals rescued the injured father-son duo in critical condition and sent them to Deogarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment. Subsequently, both the injured were shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack as their health conditions deteriorated.

On being informed, Deogarh police reached the spot and seized the SUV and motorcycle. Police have registered a case and a probe which is underway, a senior official said.
