BCJD takes major seats in Capital city

Bhubaneswar: The results of the students’ union polls across the state were announced Saturday. In the Capital city, the results were announced in five colleges and a university at 5pm after voting concluded at 2pm.
Voting started at 8am. After the declaration of results, it was time for celebrations by the victorious candidates and their supporters across campuses.
In Ramadevi Women’s University, Soubhagya Soumyashree Samal of 2nd year Bio-technology PG was elected president while Simran Panda of Plus III second year Commerce was elected vice-president and Debasmita Das of first year PG home science was elected the general secretary.
Soumyashree beat Tanmayeee Hota of ABVP and Sushre Sangita Mohapatra of NSUI. Soumyashree said she would dedicate this victory to those who were by the side of truth and justice. “I dedicate the win to all those who stood by me all the way despite bad propaganda,” she said.
‘‘This is the result of a month-long campaign. I am very happy and it is because of the efforts of my supporters that I won the elections.’’ She said her first priority will be to start the functioning of a new 400-bed hostel for the students, she added.
On the occasion, Anasuya Tripathy also congratulated the new president, who is also from the same department (biotech). She said she hopes Sowmyashree will do her duty with all dedication.
The candidates of the BCJD had started celebrations even before the official declaration of results. The ABVP and NSUI had accepted defeat and faded out of the spot.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed at Ramadevi Women’s College Friday after it was reported that cash was distributed among students to vote here Saturday.
A group of students alleged `500, along with a bouquet of roses was given to each student to vote for candidates of a political party and the photograph of the incident has also gone viral on the social media. OP
