Sambalpur/Kuchinda: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old beautician was abducted and killed in the Kuchinda area of Sambalpur district, police said Saturday.
The victim was identified as Sarita Sa, a resident of Kusumi Mahulaguda village under Mahulpali police limits. She worked at a beauty parlour in Kuchinda town. Sawent missing July 16 during the Rath Yatra festivities in Kuchinda.
When she failed to return home, her family searched extensively before filing a missing person’s complaint with local police. Police launched an investigation based on the family’s complaint, detained and questioned Anil Pruseth, a suspect from Kundaposi area.
Under repeated questioning, Pruseth confessed to the crime and detailed the sequence of events, police said. He admitted to abducting Sa in a car, killing her and dumping her body in the Badarama forest under the Jamankira police limits in the district.
Acting on Pruseth’s information, police recovered Sa’s body from the Badarama for est and sent it for post-mortem. Officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem report is available.
Police said they are continuing to question the main suspect, who remains in custody, to determine the motive behind the killing.
