Keonjhar, March 7: In the wake of the arrest of Nirupama Sahu, the director of Pramila Group of Institutions, in connection with financial fraud by N-Mart, many students pursuing BEd course in the institute Saturday accused her of fleecing them of lakhs of rupees.
Sahu had claimed she was the chief agent of N-Mart, which was accused of duping scores of depositors on the promise of high returns. The students and their guardians told the media that they were worried about how they will get their money back and their original credentials, which they had submitted for the BEd course with the institute.
They also admitted that they could not reveal their plight and the shoddy activities of the institute earlier for fear of losing their money and certificates, but their fears have come true at last. However, none of them has lodged a police complaint in this regard.
Amid allegations of large-scale financial irregularities in land deals and BEd course, the police are yet to initiate action against the institute, except arresting Sahu and another staffer. The police are yet to freeze the Sahu’s accounts and other vital documents.
Sahu has also produced a film and invested `60 lakh in it, police sources said. Locals wonder how she could get such a whopping amount for filmmaking. They alleged many influential persons and hotel owners are conniving with the institute, which has committed financial frauds through chit fund and BEd course.
The locals have demanded a probe into its other activities like investing in various programmes and advertisements. Social activist Jitendra Patnaik demanded a CBI probe into such frauds.
Town police station IIC Subhransu Mishra said right steps will be taken in this regard. The fraud in BEd course will be looked into if complaints are lodged, he added.
