Gurgaon: Fresh from her fifth Asian Championships gold medal, boxing star MC Mary Kom said Thursday that it is her fitness that helps her feel impregnable despite being in the contact sports for nearly two decades.
“As long as I am training hard and my body is fit, I can beat anyone, bring it on. If I maintain the fitness levels, nobody can touch me,” Mary Kom told reporters here.
The five-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist returned to her preferred 48kg category after more than five years in the 51kg division. She had fought in the 51kg as the lower weight category was not a part of the 2012 London Games boxing events.
The Manipuri also added that it would be great if the 48kg division becomes an Olympic category and stated that her next target is a gold medal at the Gold Coast CWG next year. “It would be great if 48kg becomes an Olympic category. It really works very well for me,” said the Manipuri pugilist.
When asked whether she feels any pressure being constantly in the spotlight, the Manipuri said, “I always enjoy myself. I don’t stress, it is pointless. This helps me in performing well,” Mary Kom signed off. She will be leaving Thursday night for an IOC athletes’ forum in Lausanne where she will represent the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
