Bhubaneswar, April 21: Bekey Oram scored a brace to help Orissa enter the final of the U-14 National Sub-Junior Boys’ football championships with a 3-1 win over Madhya Pradesh at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi, Thursday. Orissa will meet West Bengal, who thrashed Goa 7-1 in the other semifinal, in the summit clash.
After a goalless first half, MP side took the lead through Lamujingba Mithai in the 48th minute. But Oram scored the equaliser 20 minutes later. Dula Murmu doubled the lead in the 80th minute. Oram made the issue safe in the 85th minute off a counter-attack.
MP players played a very attacking football in the last few minutes of the game but Oram shattered their hopes scoring his second and team’s third in the 85th minute.
Chess tourney
One hundred twenty seven players are leading the pack with one point each after the end of the first round of the IIIrd Triple C All India Fide Rating chess tournament at Puri, Thursday.
Top seed Sayantan Das of West Bengal got the better of D Chetana of Andhra Pradesh. There are 287 participants taking part in the tournament.
