Bengal put Gujarat on mat

Jaipur: B Amit’s all-round prowess (34 and 3/46) and Aamir Gani’s (49, 109b, 9×4) useful contribution at the rear propelled Bengal to a commanding position against defending champions Gujarat at stumps on the second day of their Ranji Trophy quarterfinal encounter here Friday.

In reply to Bengal’s respectable first innings score of 354, Gujarat were in a spot of bother at 180 for six.

After his contribution with the bat, Amit picked up three crucial wickets. He was ably-supported by India U-19 pacer Ishan Porel (2/55). For Gujarat who lost their openers early, Parthiv Patel (47, 95b, 7×4) and Bharghav Merai (67, 116b, 8×4) batted well, putting on 107 runs for the third wicket. But after their departures, things went downhill for Gujarat.

Earlier in day, Amit and Gani put on 58 runs for the seventh wicket to take Bengal past the 300-run mark after they had resumed at their overnight score of 261 for six.
