Bhadrak: A long-running marital dispute ended in tragedy Thursday when a man allegedly hacked his wife to death before hanging himself in Nangamahala area of Purunabazar, Bhadrak district, police said Thursday.
Officers recovered the bodies of Mustafa Raj, 34, and his wife, Sona Bibi, 33, from their home Thursday afternoon. The couple, who married seven years ago and had two daughters, were visiting from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, where Raj worked as a civil engineer.
Police said an argument broke out at around 2 pm while they were alone. The altercation escalated into a mutual physical attack. Raj then allegedly killed his wife with a sharp-edged weapon before hanging himself inside the house.
Neighbours alerted the police, prompting Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout and Purunabazar IIC Susant Sahu to attend the scene. The bodies have been sent for autopsy as investigations into the motive continue.
