Jalandhar, Oct 28: Harbhajan Singh and long-time girlfriend Geeta Basra exchanged wedding rings at a lavish ceremony here Wednesday evening. The veteran off-spinner will formally marry Basra, a film actress, in Phagwara, Thursday.

More than 500 hundred friends and family members attended the ring ceremony.  Harbhajan and Geeta will host a reception in Delhi, November 1.

Apart from his Team India teammates like Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli, Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachhan, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra are likely to attend. There is news that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also bless the couple.

The feisty Punjab bowler, who tormented the best batsmen across the world, is likely to return to Ranji Trophy cricket after the wedding. The 35-year-old Harbhajan, who was recently part of India’s ODI squad against South Africa, has 686 international wickets.

Basra was born in Portsmouth, UK in March 1984. She made her Bollywood debut in 2006 in an Emraan Hashmi-starrer ‘Dil Diya Hai’. The pair did their second movie – ‘The Train’, together in 2007. Basra’s career since then has been confined to music videos.

Harbhajan and Basra’s romance has largely been a private affair even after being seen in public many times. The wedding rituals are already attracting a lot of attention with several former India players like Parthiv Patel and RP Singh attending the mehendisangeet and ring exchange ceremonies.
