Bhitarkanika National Park out of bounds for visitors for 3 months

Kendrapara: A three-month ban on entry of tourists into the Bhitarkanika National Park (BNP) has been imposed from May 1.

The BNP under Rajnagar block in Kendrapara district has been kept out of bounds for visitors from May 1 till July 31 as the breeding season of the endangered estuarine crocodiles has already started.

According to a source in Rajnagar Divisional Forest, there are two main reasons why a ban is imposed on the tourists’ visit into the BNP.

During this season of mating and breeding, these reptiles tend to become more ferocious than in normal period.

So the first reason for imposing a ban is to ensure safety of the visitors. And the second reason is to provide a congenial environment to these reptiles.
