Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre development Saturday night, a youth was allegedly thrashed by cops for refusing to pay Rs 100 fine. The youth had illegally parked his vehicle on the new airport road here, cops claimed.

The youth named Ananta Behera was allegedly sitting on the footpath after parking his vehicle. A police team on patrolling duty spotted him and fined him Rs 100, for illegal parking of the vehicle. However, it has been alleged that policemen beat up the youth after insisted on paying the fine through e-challan.

“The patrolling team threatened me to take to police station and said that they will increase the fine amount to Rs 2,000. After I refused to pay cash the cops beat me us,” the youth said.

However, locals who witnessed the youth being beaten up came to his aid. They detained the patrolling team and demanded an explanation. They only relented when other senior officials visited the spot and promised action if members of the patrolling team were found guilty. The locals took Behera to Capital Hospital for treatment.

However, the patrolling team refuted the allegations. They said Behera had parked his vehicle in the no parking zone. When he was asked to pay the fine amount of Rs 100, he got angry. As the cops started taking photo of the vehicle for e-challan, Behera lost his cool and dashed his against the patrolling jeep and got injured,” a police official clarified.
