Sambalpur, Jan 4: Resentment is brewing among employees of Bhushan Steel at Thelakuli in the district as the company authorities allegedly dismissed several workers without serving any notice.
Employees of the company under the banner of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and Bhushan Mazdoor Sangh staged a protest outside the district collectorate here Monday. They submitted a memorandum to the sub-collector addressed to the district collector highlighting their four-point charter of demands.
District labour officer Krushnamohan Rout and sub-collector Bimalendu Ray reached the protest site and held a discussion with the agitators. Their protest was withdrawn after the officials assured them of taking measures to concede their demands.
The memorandum mentioned that over a thousand employees have been working at the company for the last 10 years. However, two months back, the company authorities sacked a huge number of employees without citing any reason. The authorities did not even serve any notice to the employees, it was alleged.
Their demands include reappointment of the sacked employees, payment of their outstanding salaries and that for the period in which they were sacked. The workers threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands are not met.
They had also submitted copies of the memorandum to the revenue divisional commissioner, President of India, Prime Minister, Chief Minister and the State Governor.
The company’s labour union leaders Radharani Panda, Nauri Nayak, Aswini Majhi, Jiten Patnaik, Sambit Kumar, Amit Singh, Pabitra Sahu and Ranjan Behera led the protest.
