Bijoy faces BJP heat

The senior leader of the saffron party has been expelled from the district committee as a special invited member

Bhubaneswar: The Kendrapara district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday removed party’s senior leader Bijoy Mohapatra from its fold.
“Mohapatra has been expelled from the district committee as a special invited member. Besides, recommendations have been made to the BJP state president Basant Panda to expel him from the party,” Kendrapara district BJP unit president Durjyodhan Sahu told reporters.
“The way Bijoy is resorting to disturbances for the last six months has been damaging the party’s reputation. Some of his supporters created ruckus at our party meeting where some Congress and BJD leaders were slated to join BJP,” Sahu said.
Mohapatra’s supporters shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah at Garadpur on the occasion of a misran parba (uniting ceremony) Thursday, he said, adding, the supporters also thrashed party activists and damaged the stage put up for the purpose.
The troublemakers asked the party activists as to why Mohapatra and his supporters were not invited to the party function, he added.
The saffron party is on an action mode because on many occasions Mohapatra had put the party in trouble by giving contradicting statements.
Mohapatra in his media reactions said, “I’m happy and I welcome it.”
“Conspiracy is being hatched to remove me from the party. If the party’s organisation will be strengthened after my removal, I will be happy,” the BJP leader said.
He further stated, “I also convey my hearty thanks to those who are conspiring against me in a bid to get me out of the party. If they think that the party will be stronger and continue to flourish without me, it’s most welcome.”
