Betanoti: A day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced relief for three months in imposition of penalty on traffic violators, a biker was fined Rs 18,500 at Khunta in Mayyurbhanj district.
According to reports, police and RTO officials were checking documents of vehicles at Bangal Chhak on NH-18 Tuesday.
Gopal Chandra Mohant, a farmer of Sukhilahor village was returning home on his bike after sprinkling fertilizer in his farmland.
Documents of his bike were checked by junior MVI Debasish Paikray and Betanoti IIC Parsuram Sahu.
As Gopal failed to produce documents, the officials imposed the penalty on him. The bike was taken to the police station while Gopal had to walk back home.
When the junior MVI was contacted about this matter, he disconnected the call.
Additional district transport officer Manoj Toppo said that this should not have happened.
“If it is true, the matter would be investigated,” he added.
