Bird flu detected in Cuttack, fowls culled

Cuttack: More than 400 ducks and chickens were culled at the Livestock Breeding and Dairy Farm, Khapuria in Odisha’s Cuttack after detection of bird flu.

Culling of fowls within one KM radius of the farm was also carried out. This apart, over 6,000 eggs were destroyed at the farm.

A team led by Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) Lokanath Behera took stock of the situation in nearby areas.

The Food Safety Department has put up notices in the city banning sale of poultry and its products. This prohibition will be in force for the next three months. Denizens of the city have been advised not to consume chicken during the period.

The administration’s move came after bird flu was reported at Livestock Breeding and Dairy Farm, Khapuria.
