Sundargarh, March 17: Birsingh Club, Jharsuguda stormed into the semifinals of the Inter-District Club Football Championships with a tie-breaker win against FPA, Phulbani at the Kundukela Jubilee Ground here Thursday.
Kishore Khadia opened the scoring for Birsingh Club in the 75th minute only to find the lead neutralised by Sunamali Mahananda a minute later. In the tie-breaker, the Jharsuguda brigades scored four times to emerge winners.
Birsingh Club will face Unit-VI Athletic Association in the second semifinal, Friday.
Two from Orissa
All India Football Federation (AIFF) selected two U-14 footballers of Orissa Thursday, for the upcoming preparatory camp of National U-14 boys’ football team at Bhopal. They are Beekay Oram and Srikanta Bhoi of Bolangir Sports Hostel.
They have been selected from the Orissa team, which participated in the Sub- Junior National Football Championship for East Zone qualifying round at Cuttack.
Dominating wins
Karnataka, West Bengal, Jaipur and Allahabad AGs scripted wins in different games of the IA&AD Inter-Zonal Hockey tournament at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar Thursday.
Karnataka defeated Gwalior 3-2 in a hard-fought game. Shankar Patil (18th and 42nd) scored twice while DS Darshan (28th) netted once for the winning side. Shalendra S Bundela (fourth) and Akshay Sharma (25th) scored for the losing side.
In the second encounter of the day, Bengal thrashed Punjab 6-3. Chandan Singh (seventh), Sangam Singh (24th), Gurpratap Singh (28th), Sunder Singh (37th), Virinder Singh Gill (51st), and Yadwinder Singh (57th) scored a goal each for the winning side. Chandeep Singh (12th), Deepanshu Bhargav (50th) and Ravinder Singh Jr. (59th) struck for the losing side.
Game three went in favour of Jaipur as it triumphed over Chennai 4-2. Abhay Rajsingh (ninth, 24th, 29th) netted thrice while Abhay Singh Naruka (sixth) scored the first goal for the winning side. M Thangaraj (10th) and P Dhamu (59th) scored the consolation goals for Chennai.
In the last game of the day, Allahabad scripted a crushing 4-0 win over Ranchi. Rahul Shilpkar (19th), Mumtaj Ahmad (32nd), Danish Mustfa Khan (44th) and Sidharth Shanker (59th) were the scorers for the winning team.
